Walnut Tree Dryad

Meg is working on a commission to make the mask of a walnut-tree dryad for a new-build house beside Hen Reedbed, Suffolk. It is currently at the clay model stage, from which a silicone mould will be made, and will then be cast in Jesmonite. (read more here)

The mask incorporates elements of the walnut nut and shell. It is inspired by Dr Bach’s insight into the positive aspects of the walnut tree, which he described as “pioneer, explorer and inventor, constant and determined in spite of adverse circumstances. . .” – which seemed to Meg to describe the attitude of the owner/designers of the house to their imaginative and courageous project.
